Amateur dramatics group The Rotherfield Players is celebrating its 50th anniversary with a production of The Sound of Music.

The production has a large cast with 25 adults and 14 children, aged from 7 to 15 starring as the Von Trapp family and postulant nuns. The show will be performing seven times at Rotherfield Village Hall on 6, 7, 11, 12 and 13 June.

Kate Organ, 59, is directing the show, having directed 13 major productions for The Rotherfield Players, including their previous production of The Sound of Music in 2012. Kate said it has been both challenging and rewarding directing the production.

“We have a cast with ages ranging from 7 to 87 years old – there is no other ‘team sport’ where you can get this mix of ages working together and, more importantly, having fun together. Managing rehearsals for this range of people is a challenge, but one that I love as it makes for a more authentic production compared to one where everyone is of similar age.”

There are two teams of children performing as the Von Trapp family – Team Hollywood, which is performing at 2pm on Saturday 6 and 7 June, and 7.30pm on Thursday 11 and Saturday 13 June, and Team Broadway, which is performing at 7.30pm on Saturday 6 June and Friday 12 June, and at 2pm on Saturday 13 June.

The Sound of Music is taking place 6-7 June and 11-13 June at Rotherfield Village Hall. Tickets can be purchased from The Rotherfield Players website (https://www.rotherfieldplayers.co.uk/box_office.html)

or by visiting Rotherfield St Martin office.
