The USA’s new tariff regime would have a devastating impact on some of our small Crowborough companies and lead to job losses and risk of closures, according to Sussex Weald MP, Nus Ghani.
The issue was a key discussion point at the recent Crowborough Business Expo organised by Crowborough Chamber of Commerce at the community centre.
Ms Ghani said more than 35 businesses attended – many of whom spoke to and have been in touch with her to share concerns about the recent announcement by the Trump administration to impose a new tariff regime on UK-made products.
Afterwards she said: “We are incredibly lucky to have so many fantastic businesses in Sussex Weald who export their unique products overseas and contribute a great deal to international markets and advanced manufacturing supply chain.
“I know from casework and in-person meetings and surgeries from across the constituency that this issue is hugely important and worrying to our local businesses, for many of whom the United States is a key market.”
She added that while the imposition of the new tariffs had been paused for 90 days from 9 April, she recognised that if resumed, they would have a devastating impact on some of our small local companies and lead to job losses and risk of closures.
She urged local companies to contact her. “I continue to follow the matter closely and would like to encourage all local businesses who may be impacted by the tariffs to let me know via a platform on my website: www.nusghani.org.uk/tariffs.”
